Help & Reference

To help everyone understand how the “day on” of giving should work, below is additional guidance and frequently asked questions.

If you have suggestions for additional volunteer projects, fill out the form provided or send an email to info@andoverserviceday.org.  Your suggestion will be reviewed and considered for addition to the list of options.

All projects should be reviewed for age appropriateness when students or children are involved.

As a reminder, for projects represented as “drives” schools may not be in a position to collect donated items.  Rather, arrangements should be made where possible to deliver items to the organization in need.

For Volunteers

The volunteer sign up process is intended to help facilitate the project giving activities across all who are interested.  Volunteers are encouraged to work together to coordinate efforts whenever possible, but working independently or in your own unique groups (ie. classrooms, Girl or Boy Scout Troops, etc.) is welcome as well.  In some cases, service projects may be supported individually, by a group or both ways.  There’s no right or wrong way to give give back, so don’t worry about how you’re involved!

If you’re a student from APS, please do not use your school e-mail address during sign up (when signups are in place). This is because there are limitations in receiving emails from non-APS domains. Our primary means to communicate will be done through our info@andoverserviceday.org mailbox. If we send emails to your APS email address, it may bounce back and we won’t be able to effectively communicate with you!

For Teachers or Administration

Teachers are encouraged to review the opportunities available on the service day with their students.  This can be used as an opportunity to include as part of your curriculum or social emotional learning discussions with students to educate them on Martin Luther King Jr as a civil rights leader and to convey the importance of giving to others or to help develop empathy.

Each school should consider if a project could be across the school at large.

For Members of Parent/Teacher Groups

Members of parent teacher groups are encouraged to review the volunteer project opportunities to determine if an activity could be sponsored or coordinated.  Consider working with a parent teacher group from another school on a project to elevate the impact of giving across the broader community.

As a reminder, all volunteer or giving activities must comply with COVID safety requirements.
